Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers;
1. There was tension in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital, on Tuesday, after suspected thugs set ablaze the Secretariat of the African Democratic Congress, ADC. The attack in the early hours of the day razed the secretariat at Basiri Area of Ado-Ekiti and destroyed several valuables, including plastic chairs, canopies, sound system and office equipment.
2. The Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital has nullified the local government and councillorship elections conducted in July, 2024, which produced the current council chairmen and councilors in the State. The court presided by Justice Hillary Oshomah held that the elections did not conform with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
3. Many persons have been feared dead in a tanker explosion that occurred along the Essa axis of the Agaie–Bida Road in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State, on Tuesday afternoon. The incident led to heavy traffic gridlock on the major road.
4. President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr Bernard Mohammed Doro from Plateau State as a Minister. Bayo Onanuga, Presidential spokesman, announced this in a statement, on Tuesday. The statement said the appointment is subject to confirmation by the senate.
5. Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state has signed into law, the Chieftaincy Appointment and Deposition Law, which provides for the creation of 13 new emirates and over 111 districts heads across the State. Also signed into law, was the repeal of the Sayawa Chiefdom and enactment of the Zaar Chiefdom with headquarters at Mhrim Namchi community in Tafawa Balewa local government area.
6. A day after the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest, an Abuja Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting at Kuje has remanded Mr. Aloy Ejimakor, a member of the legal team representing the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, in Kuje prison. Ejimakor was remanded alongside Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel, and 10 others arrested while protesting for the unconditional release of the embattled IPOB leader.
7. The Supreme Court on Tuesday reserved judgment in the suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party–controlled states challenging President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. A seven-member panel of Justices, led by Justice Inyang Okoro, announced the reservation of judgment after parties in the suit adopted their written addresses and processes.
8. The Federal Government, through the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, has ordered all Ministries, Departments and Agencies to submit their statements of accounts in commercial banks. The government said the move was part of its plans to maintain financial discipline. This was disclosed in a memo signed by the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, which was obtained by our correspondent on Tuesday.
9. A member of the House of Representatives representing Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency of Benue State, Ojema Ojotu, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress. The Deputy Speaker, Hon Benjamin Kalu, who presided over Tuesday’s plenary session, announced Ojotu’s defection and read the lawmaker’s defection letter on the floor of the Green Chamber.
10. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says that no fewer than 2.8 million registered voters are expected to participate in the Nov. 8 Anambra Governorship election in the state. Mr Ejimofor Ejikeme, Head of Department, Electoral Operations, INEC, Awka, Anambra, made this known on Tuesday, during the commission’s Forum for Media Executives, Reporters, Producers and Online-On Air Personalities held in Awka.
