Zamfara to establish football academy

The Zamfara State Government says plans are underway to establish a Football Academy to revitalise the sports in the state.

Alhaji Tasi’u Musa, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, stated this in a statement by the Information Officer of the ministry, Suleman Aliyu, in Gusau on Friday.

Musa said that the establishment of the academy was one of the projects to be executed under Gov. Dauda Lawal’s “Rescue Mission”.

“The academy is to serve as a significant booster to the economy of the state and also to provide an opportunity to the select talented players in the field of football.

“The initiative is aim to train our talented players and prepare them for foreign football clubs.

“This is to support government’s policies on positive reforms, to revive the state economy,” he said.

The commissioner said that the ministry had set up a committee to work out modalities, on ways to revive the abandoned traditional sports like Langa, Dambe and Kokawa.

“This is to stimulate sports activities and encourage youth to develop their traditional potentialities in sports sector,” he said.

Musa appealed to people of the state to continue to support government’s policies and programmes for the rescue mission of the governor to succeed.
